Intravesical Solutions, Glycosaminoglycan, Chondroitin Sulfate
Definition : Aqueous mixtures containing chondroitin sulfate, a sulfated glycosaminoglycan (GAG) composed of a chain of alternating sugars (N-acetylgalactosamine and glucuronic acid) intended to be instilled into the urinary bladder (i.e., intravesical solution) to achieve a local therapeutic effect. These solutions are instilled into the bladder via a urinary catheter; they are designed to help temporarily replenish the deficient GAG layer on the bladder epithelium in order to treat interstitial cystitis. The products used for cystitis relief are usually available as a two percent concentration solution of chondroitin sulfate.
