Definition : Small ear surgical spatulas designed to manipulate and/or dissect middle ear tissue during microsurgical procedures. These devices typically consist of a very slender, delicate, metallic (e.g., stainless steel) handheld instrument with a straight or curved, very thin, flat, blunt distal tip. Some middle ear microsurgery spatulas have angled tips to reach into the delicate middle ear canal structures during cochlear surgery. Middle ear microsurgical spatulas are used for microsurgical otological procedures on the middle ear.
