Software, Point-of-Care Analysis

Definition : Software designed to capture all downloaded test results from any interfaced point-of-care analyzer and monitor a limited number of the analyzer's functions. This software is intended to work only with one or a few models of point-of-care analyzers, usually from the same manufacturer. The software performs a variety of algorithms such as quality control, detecting out-of-range specimens, and send/receive patient information from the laboratory or hospital local information system. Point-of-care analyzer software is usually not available separate from a set of point-of-care analyzers, but may be updated (i.e., through the release of modified versions) during the life of the equipment.
