Reagents, Molecular Assay, Gene Anomaly, Mutation, SOD1
Definition : Molecular assay reagents intended to identify mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1, soluble (SOD1) gene, located at chromosome 21q22.1, which encodes for a protein that is one of two isozymes responsible for destroying free superoxide radicals in the body. This inherited genetic mutation has been identified in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
