Definition : Molecular assay reagents intended to identify deletions in the azoospermia factor (AZF1) region of the long arm of the Y chromosome, located in Yq11.2, that encodes for an RNA binding protein important in spermatogenesis. Inherited deletions are present in most male patients with Y chromosome infertility, a spectrum of diseases characterized by total absence of sperm (azoospermia) or decreased number of spermatozoa in the semen (oligospermia, also known as oligozoospermia).
