Laboratory Hoods, Laminar Flow, Vertical, Forensic Evidence
Definition : Vertical laminar airflow hoods designed to prevent airborne contamination during manipulation and/or drying of forensic evidence. These hoods typically consist of a hard plastic (e.g., PVC) enclosure with a high-efficiency particulate-air (HEPA) filter and provide a steady laminar airflow to the enclosed forensic (e.g., crime scene) evidence. Vertical laminar airflow forensic evidence laboratory hoods are intended to provide a working environment for nonbiohazardous forensic evidence, minimizing the possibility of its contamination and the release of fumes, odors, and/or particulates during evidence drying. They are not biological safety enclosures and should not be used when infectious or potentially infectious materials are handled.
