Definition : Molecular assay reagents intended to identify the acquired presence of three copies of chromosomes 12 (i.e., trisomy 12) in a patient's sample (e.g., cells obtained from peripheral blood lymphocytes), rather than the normal two. Acquired trisomy 12 is the most common chromosomal abnormality associated with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), a disease characterized by the presence in the blood of an increased number of mature lymphocytes.
