Definition : Devices designed to separate blood into plasma and cell components by centrifugation. These devices typically consist of a dedicated portable centrifuge with electronic controls, a display, a separation chamber, and appropriate tubing. Donor blood is mixed with an anticoagulant and centrifuged to separate plasma from other blood components such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
