Definition : Dental trephines designed to cut and remove minimal circular sections of bone tissue around a failed implant. These instruments are typically hollow cylinders a very thin circular-saw-like edge and a powered (e.g., electric) rotary surgical handpiece; dental trephines usually provide internal irrigation. Implant removal dental trephines are used to facilitate the extraction of defective implants and placement of new implants once the failed one is removed.
