Definition : Serology reagents intended to detect antibodies to poliovirus type 2, a virus of the genus Enterovirus, family Picornaviridae. Poliovirus type 2 may cause poliomyelitis and poliomyelitis epidemics. Poliomyelitis may be nonparalytic, characterized by fever, sore throat, headache, sometimes stiffness of the neck and back; or paralytic, characterized by involvement of the central nervous system, stiffness, and paralysis with subsequent atrophy of several groups of muscles.
