Definition : Serology reagents intended to detect immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies to eastern equine encephalitis virus, a virus of the genus Alphavirus, family Togaviridae. This virus may cause subclinical infections in humans, with only a low-grade fever; in some cases this fever may be followed by encephalitis, characterized by increasing drowsiness, neck rigidity, confusion, paralysis, convulsions, and coma. The virus is typically transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes of the genus Aedes.
