Pill Splitters

Definition : Devices designed to split a pill in two halves. These devices are typically a tabletop plastic container with two hinged parts; typically, the lower part includes a holder for the pill and the upper part includes a manual cutting mechanism (e.g., a blade) that cuts the pill when the lid is tightly compressed. Some devices include a storage compartment in the bottom for the split pills. Pill splitters are used mainly to facilitate the administration of drugs (e.g., vitamins) or to provide half the dose of a whole pill.
