Definition : Serology reagents intended to detect immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies to species of Treponema, a genus of spiral gram-negative bacteria of the family Spirochaetaceae. Species that are pathologic to humans include T. pallidum (causing syphilis), T. pertenue (causing yaws), and T. carateum (causing pinta).
