Definition : Serology reagents intended to detect immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies to Coxiella burnetii, a bacterium of the family Rickettsiaceae. C. burnetii causes an acute infection (i.e., Q fever), characterized by fever and chills, that is frequently complicated by pneumonitis, hepatitis, and endocarditis; in humans it is typically acquired by inhalation of airborne organisms derived from infected animals.
