Definition : Serology reagents intended to detect toxins from or antigens or antibodies to species of Clostridium, a genus of bacteria of the family Bacillaceae. These bacteria are part of the normal colon flora in humans; some species may grow in large numbers and produce a protein exotoxin in sufficient amounts to cause gas gangrene and/or necrotizing colitis.
