Definition : Spinal surgical curettes designed for scraping and/or excising bone tissue from the spinal discs. These curettes are typically handheld, manual instruments including a shaft with a straight, backward-, or forward-angled spoon-like working end that is attached to a sturdy handle. Spinal disc curettes are available in several sizes and shapes appropriate to perform lumbar and/or cervical discectomy; some curettes may be used under a microscope to perform microdiscectomy procedures.
