Definition : Surgical chisels designed to cut and shape bone, cartilage, and associated tissue of the spinal cord. These chisels typically consist of a handheld, manual flat-blade instrument with a cutting edge that is beveled on one side at the distal end and an integral handle. Middle spine surgery chisels of many different sizes and shapes are available, including dedicated chisels for lumbosacral spinal fusion, sturdy chisels for laminectomy, and shouldered chisels for cervical discectomy.
