Tissue Bulking Agents

Definition : Liquid substances intended to be injected into a target tissue to increase tissue bulk after their solidification as a permanent implant. These substances may consist of an organic material or more frequently a biocompatible copolymer (e.g., ethylene-vinyl alcohol) and a solvent; they are usually injected using endoscopic procedures. Dedicated tissue bulking implants are available for the treatment of specific disorders (e.g., esophageal sphincter reflux, vesicoureteral reflux).
