Definition : Cabinets designed to store, display, and provide ready access to instruments, devices, and materials (e.g., local anesthetics) used in ophthalmic diagnoses and treatment; they usually have a working surface (e.g., the top of the cabinet) intended to facilitate the procedure. This furniture typically consists of stand-alone, multiple-drawer, -shelf, or -shelf/drawer cabinets with hinged or sliding (either glass or solid) doors. Ophthalmologic storage/treatment cabinets usually include hand held ophthalmoscopes and/or ophthalmoscope sets. They may also include attachments for electrosurgical units, fiberoptic light sources, built-in grounded electrical outlets, security locks, and/or small wheels for easy movement. They are used in hospitals and physician offices.
