Decontamination Systems, Outdoor Equipment/Vehicle/Facility
Definition : Decontamination systems designed to remove and/or neutralize chemical agents, toxic industrial materials, and/or biological agents from the surface of outdoor equipment, vehicles, and/or facilities. These systems usually include several units (i.e., modules) to provide high-pressure water, hot-water, steam, and chemical-decontaminant delivery. Decontamination is usually performed in several steps. First, preliminary removal of the contaminant is performed using a powerful physical agent (e.g., hot gas, high-pressure water, steam). Then, chemical neutralization (e.g., using decontaminant solutions and/or microemulsions) occurs. The last step consists of residue removal and drying. In addition, steam may be used for biological decontamination. Some systems are also intended for terrain and/or personal-gear decontamination. Mobile systems are also available.
