Monitors, Bedside, Neurology, Electromyographic
Definition : Neurological bedside physiological monitors designed to continuously measure and display the intrinsic electrical potentials that are generated by muscle fibers. These monitors typically include electrodes (e.g., Nichrome wires) that are inserted into the muscles using a hypodermic needle, an electronic unit with an amplifier that boosts and transmits the bioelectric potentials, and a display that shows the action potential waveform. Bedside neurological monitors can be used to display the electric potentials from a single muscle (e.g., extraocular, facial, laryngeal, lingual) or from several muscles simultaneously.
