Reagents, Immunoassay, Toxicology, Porphyrin Derivative, Uroporphyrin
Definition : Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (e.g., urine) to determine uroporphyrin, a porphyrin derivative. Uroporphyrin is the most water soluble of all porphyrins. It is typically excreted in urine. High levels of uroporphyrin are found in toxic (acquired) porphyrias caused by one or more of a group of toxic agents (e.g., lead). Some dietary products, diseases (e.g., chronic renal failure), and hereditary deficiencies (i.e., inherited porphyrias) may also cause abnormal protoporphyrin levels.
