Esophagoscopes

Definition : Endoscopes designed for direct insertion through the mouth into the upper gastrointestinal tract for visual examination, biopsy, retrieval of foreign bodies, and treatment of lesions of the interior of the esophagus. Esophagoscopes usually consist of an outer sheath, a lighting system, and a working channel for catheters and operative devices; these endoscopes may be rigid or flexible.
