IVD Test Reagent/Kits, Immunoassay, Therapeutic Drug, Immunosuppressant, Mycophenolic Acid
Definition : Immunoassay reagents intended to perform quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (typically whole blood) to measure levels of mycophenolic acid, the active metabolite of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF), in the sample. Mycophenolic acid is an antibiotic substance derived from Penicillium stoloniferum, and related species that blocks de novo biosynthesis of purine nucleotides by inhibition of the enzyme inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase. Mycophenolic acid has selective effects on the immune system and prevents the proliferation of T-cells, lymphocytes, and the formation of antibodies from B-cells. It also may inhibit recruitment of leukocytes to inflammatory sites. Reagents for measuring mycophenolic acid levels are used to monitor the drug levels in patients under treatment to determine the adequacy of drug treatment or diagnose a drug overdose or drug-related toxicity.
