Definition : Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (typically serum) to determine the neuroendocrine hormone neurotensin, a peptide secreted by the endocrine glands of the gastrointestinal tract and also by the brain. Neurotensin acts in the brain as a neurotransmitter; its action includes gastrointestinal contraction, hypotension, and increased vascular permeability.
