Definition : Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (typically serum) to determine bombesin, a peptide hormone produced in the gastrointestinal tract and also in the brain. Bombesin mostly stimulates the release of various hormones, smooth muscle contractions, and changes in cardiovascular and renal function. Increased levels of bombesin are found in certain pulmonary and thyroid tumors.
