Definition : Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (typically serum) to determine a protein known as "a" or "Lp(a);" this particle is usually attached to the apolipoprotein B-100 and is synthesized in the liver. Lp(a) exists in many different isoforms; the smaller form is found in higher concentrations in blood.
