Definition : Microbiology reagents intended to identify the serogenic types (i.e., A, B, C) of the human Influenza viruses, single-stranded RNA viruses of the family Orthomyxoviridae. Some types of this virus are the etiologic agent of influenza, a disease characterized by sudden onset of high fever, myalgia, headache, severe malaise, nonproductive cough, sore throat, and rhinitis; these viruses may be transmitted through the air or from one human to another.
