Definition : Microbiology reagents used in manual tests to determine the susceptibility of bacteria to antibacterial agents (e.g., antibiotics) by determining the zones of inhibition around antibiotic-containing disks applied to agar plates inoculated with a standardized suspension of bacteria after several hours. The inhibition zone diameters are classified as susceptible, moderately susceptible (also known as indeterminate), or resistant.
