Definition : Visual evoked potential electrodes designed to be placed on the nasal and lateral canthi of each eye to monitor electrical potentials generated by ocular activity; the electrodes typically measure the gradual change in the electric potential measured between the retina and cornea during dark-to-light adaptation. These electrodes are typically skin electrodes operating in a similar manner to those used in electroencephalography; tape may be used to attach the cup electrodes near the eye. Two or more electrodes may be used in electrooculography to monitor both eyes concurrently. Electrooculography electrodes are frequently used in analysis combining electrooculography and electroretinography studies to help diagnose certain retinal diseases.
