Definition : Serology reagents used in rapid tests to detect antigens or antibodies in a patient's sample to viruses belonging to the family Retroviridae. The most common subfamilies of pathogenic retroviruses are Oncovirinae, Spumavirinae, and Lentivirinae. Lentiviruses are the cause of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and oncoviruses are associated with human T-Cell lymphomas and leukemia.
