Definition : Serology reagents used in tests intended to detect antigens that permit the identification of strains of Escherichia coli, the principal species of the genus Escherichia, family Enterobacteriaceae. E. coli is a common inhabitant of the large intestine in humans, but pathogenic strains cause diarrhea and may cause urinary tract infections, conjunctivitis, and septicemia.
