Definition : Simulators designed to mimic the bioelectrical signals of human organs (e.g., heart, brain) and/or the electrical output of transducers that detect patient vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, temperature). These simulators mimic multiple different signals, typically including the bioelectric signal of the heart; the thorax impedance baseline and its variations with respiration; and the output of invasive blood pressure, cardiac output, and temperature transducers. These simulators typically consist of a signal generator, a display, and appropriate cables/leads to match with the units being tested; most include computer capabilities. Multiparameter simulators are used to test the performance of single and multiparameter physiologic monitors and other recording and measuring devices of physiologic parameters.
