Definition : Clinical chemistry reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative chemical analyses of body fluids (typically serum) to determine the level of the enzyme pepsin. Increased pepsin levels are found in patients with disorders such as gastrinomas, duodenal ulcers, and superficial gastritis; decreased levels are found in patients with atrophic gastritis, gastric carcinoma, and Addison's disease.
