Hydrothermal Ablation Systems, Endometrial
Definition : Hydrothermal ablation systems designed to produce coagulation necrosis in the inner mucous membrane of the uterus (endometrium) by circulating a hot-water solution (e.g., saline) at a temperature close to 90 degrees Celsius (204 degrees Fahrenheit) during several minutes (typically 10) either directly within the uterus or in a flexible (e.g., plastic) container placed into the uterus. Endometrial hydrothermal ablation systems are used to treat excessive or dysfunctional uterine bleeding (menorrhagia).
