Definition : Nephrostomy catheters designed for elimination of areas of narrowing (i.e., strictures) in the ureters, thereby increasing their lumen. These catheters typically consist of a flexible 7 Fr plastic tube including a hydraulic balloon at their tip that is inflated to 12 to 26 Fr. These catheters are mostly used for treatment of benign strictures in the upper urinary tract.
