Stimulators, Electrical, Peripheral Nerve, Analgesic
Definition : Peripheral nerve electrical stimulators designed to apply stimuli to alleviate pain (i.e., analgesic). These stimulators typically consist of an electric pulse generator attached to electrodes that deliver the stimuli. Stimulators including an external pulse generator and electrodes that are placed on the skin to apply the stimuli transcutaneously (known as transcutaneous electric nerve stimulators [TENS]) are available. Implantable stimulators, either completely implantable or using a radio-frequency inductive coupling with an external power source, with electrodes located around a peripheral nerve, are also available.
