Definition : Light microscopes used to magnify small structures and specially suited for diagnosis, postoperative examination, and check-ups that require high magnification or adjustable focusing. Examination microscopes typically consist of a binocular microscope mounted in an articulated arm, usually attached to an examination chair or mounted to a wall or ceiling. Most examination microscopes are used in doctor offices for dermatology, ophthalmic, otolaryngology, and wound exams and frequently in minor surgery procedures.
