Dentures, Complete, Preformed
Definition : Complete dentures designed using a set of preformed teeth that are bonded to a custom-made denture base obtained using the patient's mouth as a mold; the denture is intended for replacement of all the teeth in the upper (i.e., maxilla) or lower (i.e., mandible) jaw. These dentures are typically assembled in a dental laboratory or, less frequently, at a dentist's office; they usually consist of a dental plate that comes in standard sizes that can be contoured to custom fit the patient's mouth and a set of artificial teeth that cover a full arch (either the upper or lower). Preformed complete dentures are intended for use on edentulous alveolar ridges after tooth removal; they are no longer frequently used in current dental practice.
