Definition : Liquid chromatography systems in which the stationary phase is a gel coated on a thin substrate (e.g., paper, glass). These systems include the plate or sheet holding the stationary phase, a closed container used to enclose the media used and the mobile phase, a syringe or micropipette (i.e., spotting device) used to deliver a sample as a spot or streak to the media, a visualization chamber, and a detector (usually a densitometer).
