Definition : Floor centrifuges in which maximum speed is usually about 6,000 rpm (sometimes up to 10,000 rpm). These centrifuges are primarily used to centrifuge blood or precipitates; they cannot reach sufficient speed to adequately separate ultrasmall particles (e.g., viruses) or macromolecules or to perform density gradient centrifugation.
