Definition : Cushions designed in a round or oval shape with a hole in the center that are intended to alleviate pressure on the caudal extremity of the vertebral column (coccyx) and/or perineal area. These cushions are typically made of a soft material (e.g., foam) or manufactured as inflatable (e.g., a vinyl, rubber) devices. Ring cushions are used when sitting to relieve pain from hemorrhoids or in the recovery period after surgery, pregnancy, or injury. Dedicated ring-shaped cushions with additional waterproof and/or easy-to-clean materials are available for use on commodes.
