Definition : Diode lasers, usually operated at low power and with gallium arsenide as the active medium at an 810 nm wavelength, used to coagulate abnormal vascular tissue in the retina and to perform other photocoagulation procedures in the eye. These lasers can be coupled to a biomicroscope slit lamp or indirect ophthalmoscope by a flexible fiberoptic cable.
