Definition : Swabs designed to disinfect intravenous (IV) ports and needleless connectors in order to reduce the risk of infection. These devices typically consist of a small plastic cup containing sponge-like pad soaked with a disinfectant such as isopropyl alcohol. These swabs are used as a friction scrub, then discarded.
