Definition : Topical solutions, creams, and gels designed to lubricate the joints after external application on the skin (i.e., transcutaneously). These products usually consist of a substance with some chemical components (e.g., phospholipids) which travel through the skin and penetrate the synovial fluid of the joint. The transcutaneous substance is intended to? produce a lubricating effect that may reduce the pain and improve the articulation movements in patients with osteoarthritis.
