Definition : Operating tables designed for optimal patient positioning and surgical team access while performing orthopedic surgical procedures. These tables usually include a base, pedestal, an upper-body radiolucent rotational support (e.g., tabletop or sacral rest padding), a perineal post, and an apparatus for lower-body support (e.g., abductor bars); the table may also include other orthopedic accessories. Dedicated orthopedic operating tables intended for spinal surgery and for surgical procedures due to fracture and traumatic injuries, including arthroplasty, are also available.
