Simulators, Acoustic Impedance, Ear

Definition : Simulators designed to mimic the acoustical impedance of the human ear that are mainly intended to assess the sensitivity and frequency response of ear and head phones. These simulators are available using several shapes and characteristics; many of them consist of a tabletop electromechanical device that includes a clamp to fix the device under test, an acoustic coupler, and connectors for external microphones. Ear acoustical impedance simulators are intended to evaluate the electroacoustical characteristics of the devices under assessment following a given standard (e.g., ANSI, IEC). The simulators are also used for calibration of audiometers.
