Prostheses, Cardiac Valve, Biological, Whole Valve, Transcatheter, Pulmonary

Definition : Biological cardiac valve prostheses manufactured using a valve of biological origin that are intended for percutaneous transcatheter delivery to substitute the pulmonary valve function. These prosthetic cardiac valves typically consist of a jugular valve taken from a bovine (i.e., cow) which is sutured to a metal (e.g., platinum-indium) frame and delivered through a percutaneous (usually femoral) catheter. Pulmonary transcatheter cardiac prostheses may have several different sizes and shapes, depending on the anatomic characteristics of the particular patient. The valves are mainly used in patients with right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) tachycardia.
