Samplers, Laboratory, Automated, Frozen Sample

Definition : Laboratory samplers designed for sequentially aspirating several homogeneous aliquots of frozen samples typically from a single cryo container (e.g., test tube), keeping both the aliquot and sample at cryogenic temperatures (e.g., -80 degrees Celsius/-112 degrees Fahrenheit). These samplers perform the complete set of operations needed to obtain the sample aliquot automatically, including the sample container managing, decapping, and recapping; sample coring; and dispensing of the aliquot into the destination tube. Frozen sample (e.g., cryo-sample) automated laboratory samplers are intended to obtain aliquots from frozen biological samples, without exposing the original sample to freeze-thaw cycles, thus protecting the integrity and permitting a longer storage period of useful life for the original samples; they are mainly used in bio-sample banks.
