Orthoses, Lower Limb, Foot, Gait, Shoe Modifier, Elevation

Definition : Shoe modifier foot gait orthoses designed as a permanent modification of a shoe by attaching an internal or external lift (i.e., elevation) as a permanent modification of a shoe. These orthoses typically consist of a prefabricated or custom-made device that is attached internally to the heel (usually when less than 0.5 inch/2.5 cm lift is needed) or externally to the sole. Elevations may be limited to the heels or extend all along the shoe. Elevation orthoses are used to compensate leg length discrepancy due to congenital or acquired conditions. They are also used to compensate for fixed equinus deformities and/or to reduce strain on the Achilles tendon.
